Description
The MPM123 is a measurement and protection module designed for safety-related machine applications, particularly steam-turbine protection and operation of the hydraulic safety system. A system using three MPM123 modules in a 2oo3 architecture can achieve IEC 61508 SIL 3 when the prescribed maintenance and proof-test requirements are followed; a 1oo1 implementation is classified SIL 2.
The module acquires four 4–20 mA field-sensor inputs and two additional 4–20 mA dynamic-threshold inputs. It can power the field sensors, scale and linearise measurements, compare them with high or low thresholds and open the Trip relay when a trip condition occurs. Measurements can be transferred through an isolated C80-35 or Rx3i bus interface, while front-panel MODBUS links provide read-only monitoring and protected configuration access.
