ICSS’s value lies in its ability to follow a problem beyond the usual boundaries between disciplines: physical phenomena, instrumentation, logic, control, communication, HMI, controllers and electronic hardware. The starting point depends on the issue, but the analysis considers the entire chain that could explain the observed behaviour.
This approach can address a targeted anomaly as well as support a complex modification. It identifies interactions between systems, compares the configuration with actual plant operation and prepares tests covering the effects of the modification beyond the immediate point concerned.

Control systems

Protocols and interfaces
The analysis covers the complete path followed by information: remote equipment, serial or Ethernet link, gateway, network, controller and application. It may combine configuration analysis, network captures, simulation, and communication-loss or recovery tests.
Processes and control
The study draws on plant behaviour, trends, PFUPs, P&IDs, electrical diagrams and control-logic diagrams. It covers PID loops, sequences, protections and interactions between the control system and the process.
Cross-system diagnostics and tailored solutions
When a fault spans several systems or cannot be explained using standard tools, the investigation may extend down to boards, registers, communication frames, firmware, CPLDs or microcontrollers. ICSS can then adapt the existing system or develop the required tool, interface or software.
These areas are not treated as isolated specialities. A communication loss may disrupt a sequence, an incorrect measurement may destabilise a control loop, and a local modification may affect an auxiliary, protection or another operating mode. This continuity of analysis is the central theme of ICSS assignments.
