Industrial processes and control systems

ICSS works on industrial control systems, providing commissioning, maintenance and long-term operational support, fault diagnosis, modifications, new functions and upgrade preparation.

Its strength lies in combining an overall understanding of the process with in-depth knowledge of the system that controls it. To analyse a fault, ICSS compares the plant’s actual behaviour with the PFUPs, P&IDs, electrical diagrams and control-logic diagrams. This approach can address a specific requirement or trace a complex problem throughout the plant, from the physical phenomenon to its processing by the control system.

ICSS process expertise spans combined-cycle and conventional power plants, hydropower, geothermal and concentrated solar power, turbines, boilers, water–steam cycles and auxiliaries, as well as water treatment and desalination. Its commissioning experience and ability to quickly understand a new process also enable ICSS to work on other industrial installations — rolling mills, for example.

ICSS has in-depth expertise in ALSPA P320 across all configurations (including DCS, machine control and specialised functions) as well as Emerson Ovation, multi-vendor architectures and their communication protocols.

For the most complex diagnostics, the investigation can extend down to electronic boards, registers, communication frames, firmware, CPLDs or microcontrollers. It may include reverse engineering to reconstruct how a poorly documented or obsolete device operates. This depth of analysis makes it possible to modify existing equipment with a full understanding of its operation or to develop a tailored solution — a diagnostic tool, interface, electronics, firmware or software — when no standard solution meets the requirement.

ICSS also repairs obsolete ALSPA P320 boards and equipment and maintains a stock of spare parts to take over from the manufacturer and ensure continued maintenance of these systems.

What sets ICSS apart

An overall view of process and control

Combining an understanding of the process with knowledge of the logic, sequences, control loops and protections that operate it. This overall view helps anticipate the effect of a modification on other systems and address the cause rather than the symptom.

ALSPA P320, from engineering to component level

Years of commissioning work for Alstom Power. In-depth expertise in ALSPA P320 Series 4, 5/5.1 and 6/6.1, from Controcad, Centralog and controllers down to boards, registers, firmware, CPLDs and microcontrollers.

Cross-system diagnostics and tailored solutions

The investigation may span several control systems, networks and third-party devices. When no standard solution exists, ICSS can develop the required hardware interface, firmware or software.
